August 2014: Introduction to Archetypal Drama – with Bill Pearlman

An introduction to Bill Pearlman’s creative action therapy, Archetypal Drama. The introductory session will cover some of the basic concepts of the work as well as sample presentations of how archetypal dialogue works in this form of dramatic interaction.

Some of the topics to be discussed during this intro talk are:

      • Archetypes
      • The work of C.G. Jung and James Hillman
      • The uses of active imagination in soulful interactions.
      • The relationship between archetypal drama and the theater experiments of innovators such as Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook and what depth psychology and certain kinds of acting have in common.

NOTE: Should enough interest arise, this introductory talk will be followed by four more intensive workshops in September, beginning on Tuesdays, Sept. 2 through Sept. 23, from 10 to 2. About the facilitator
???????????????????????????????Bill Pearlman is a pioneer in archetypal drama therapy, an amalgam of dramatic and therapeutic ideas influenced by Jung, Hillman, Moreno, Grotowski and Peter Brook. Bill has worked as a professional actor (member of Actor’s Equity and Screen Actors Guild), is a published poet, and worked in community mental health and private practice in New Mexico for many years. He trained in psychodrama, Structural Family Therapy, and Jungian analysis. He has taught and offered workshops at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, CIIS in San Francisco, and the Program for Drama Therapy at NYU. He has also offered workshops in Brazil and in San Miguel de Allende. He is the author of five books of poetry and a book exploring theater, Jungian Psychology and drama therapy, CHARACTERS OF THE SACRED: The World of Archetypal Drama.
