The most practical way to fly to San Miguel is to take a flight to León International Airport (BJX). It is approximately 75 minutes from San Miguel. There are shuttle services and private cars with drivers who will meet you as you exit the customs area and drive you directly to our door in San Miguel.
Fly to Mexico City (MEX)
Once your flight to Mexico City lands, there are several options for getting from the airport to San Miguel de Allende. A Primera Plus bus station is inside the airport. Buy a ticket to Querétaro.
The comfortable, air-conditioned bus runs every half hour. When you arrive in Querétaro about 3 hours later, catch a bus to San Miguel—or take a taxi. The taxi stand is in front of the bus station. A taxi can deliver you to your door in San Miguel for about $30-35 US. The ride will take about 45 minutes.
What you need to get into Mexico
A valid passport. A tourist card (visa) is required; this is available from the airline or a travel agent. If you are coming to San Miguel on the bus, have the bus stop at the Immigration Office on the Mexican side of the border and obtain your tourist card. If driving, do the same.
At the port of entry, either at the airport or the border, you will go through Mexican Customs, where you will encounter a random luggage check.
