Hatha Yoga with Usha Leason

One of several yogic traditions, Hatha Yoga refers to the ancient Hindu practice of static physical exercise used to develop physical, physiological, psychological, and spiritual aspects of the self. Unlike the active movements of Western gymnastics, Hatha Yoga utilizes stationary postures called asanas. Practice of the asanas is said to encourage physical well being, mental discipline, and spiritual growth.

The Sanskrit syllable ha indicates the sun and tha the moon. The “yoga” or union of the sun and the moon is through pranayama, believed to be the subtle vitality of breath. Pranayama is induced by actual practice of the asanas and also by special breathing exercises and cleansing techniques. Hatha yoga is based upon balancing the opposing forces that exist naturally within our bodies. Back bends are followed by forward bends while contractions precede extensions. Through this balance of opposites the sun and moon of hatha yoga are joined in union.

  1. Hi Ushua,

I felt wonderful after the yoga class with you last Saturday. I took another yoga class and didn’t feel right. I wanted to find out if there are other places you teach yoga and if you give private or semi-private lessons.

    Thanks,

    Cathi

    • Dear Cathi, thank you for your comments. I am also teaching at LifePath on Monday & Wednesday from 10.15 to 11.30am these classes are physically more challenging but you can pace your self if you would like to ry.
      Peace Usha

  2. Hello Usha!
Wondering if you work with props? I have athritis in my neck and upper back. Have done hatha yoga with Yoly, but I can not do certain asanas, such as headstands.

Would like to try your Monday class.
    Thank you, diana

Hello, A couple of questions- do you teach the basic Sivananda Yoga Class and do I need to bring a mat to the yoga class? Look forward to the class. Thank you.

Hi Cheri, Usha teaches Hatha Yoga (also Restorative Yoga, but that class is on break during May). Contact her directly via e-mail at usha@lifepathretreats for more specific information. We have a few spare mats, but if you have your own that would be much better. Thanks and see you when you come to the class!
