    • An Introduction to Archetypal Dreamwork: a brief guided tour of the Underworld

      Starts: 11:00 AM

      Ends: 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 2, 2014

      Location: Downstairs room

      Description: Suggested donation: 100 pesos

Joseph Campbell often said that the dream was the private myth and that myth is the public dream, yet how often are we willing to explore our private myths or engage with our dreams? Despite spending so much of our lives in the world of dreams, the subject of dreams remains a mostly unexplored, usually misunderstood, much maligned and often awkward topic to the average contemporary occidental mind. A few intrepid souls have sought to understand and work with dreams, riding the waves generated by Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung’s pioneering endeavors. Yet this work is often done by bringing dream content to be scrutinized by the light of day, reason and consciousness… this is not so of Archetypal work, which seeks to explore the dream within the frame of its own language and logic. As observers descending into the Underworld, we neither bring a light nor train our eyes to see through the darkness, but rather learn to see the darkness itself and all of its resplendent gifts and mysteries. Likewise we engage with the various personages that populate this world without judgment and in their own language.
This talk will not only serve as an introduction to the Archetypal Dreamwork Lab that will be offered at LifePath as an ongoing course by Carlos Chancellor starting October 7, but will also briefly explore some of the history of dreamwork throughout the ages, especially the modern work of Carl Jung and James Hillman, as well as exploring some of the techniques and rituals around dreams used by various systems and cultures. This will lead us towards a general overview of Archetypal Psychology’s proposal towards dreamwork ending in a group participation demonstration on a dream. What are dreams? What are archetypes? Why does our culture demonstrate fear or resistance when it comes to the subject of dreams? What is the difference between interpreting a dream and remaining within its images? How are my dreams relevant to me? How can I expand my understanding and relation with my self and the world around me through engaging and working with my dreams? How can engaging my dreams help me to connect with something greater and allow me to see beyond the literal and concrete? How can I work with my dreams? These and similar questions will be explored by the group through guided discussion during this event and the subsequent ongoing classes.
All are welcome, no pre-registration necessary. Please bring writing material, your imagination and sense of critical exploration. Please leave judgments and preconceived notions at the door. Any questions, comments or for more information please contact Carlos Chancellor directly at either his e-mail: cfchancellor@gmail.com or mobile: (415) 149 5567.

    • Archetypal Dreamwork Lab - with Carlos Chancellor

      Starts: 11:00 AM

      Ends: 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 7, 2014

      Location: Downstairs classroom

Description: Cost per session: 200 pesos

Never formulaic, rarely intelligible, often awkward, usually stunning and ever seeking to challenge our preconceived notions and ideas of our selves and our relation to the world around us, dreams offer us a near perfect mirror of our inner lives and help us to relate to the inner reaches of our souls, while offering us a language by which to view and engage with the world around us beyond the literal, the obvious and the concrete.

Going beyond a class, this lab offers hands-on group exploration of dreams, their imagery, personages and conflicts through guided techniques such as deep listening framed within the perspective of Archetypal Psychology while exploring and paying homage to traditional theory and techniques from systems such as Alchemy, Shamanism, Mysticism, Comparative Mythology, Freudian Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analytical Psychology, etc., all of which are its due lineage. From deep listening to active imagination to personification to exploring symbolism through Phenomenology, each individual session will focus on a different angle and approach to engaging and working with the dream, while following and deepening a common thread and tendency. Participants may bring their own dreams or the dreams of others to work on and explore (offering therapists an excellent opportunity to receive a sort of group supervision tailored to the dreams of patients). This course will also be supported by guided readings and group discussion of seminal works such as James Hillman’s The Dream and the Underworld, excerpts from Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, Carl Meier’s Healing Dream and Ritual, among others.

Whether you are a therapist seeking further tools, a soul explorer searching for different perspectives, a person seeking connection with their nightworld or simply curious, all are welcome. What you know when you enter the room is of no importance, all that matters is what has changed when you walk out the door, so no one willing to learn is at a disadvantage. This lab will be ongoing and participants may enter or leave at any time. Please bring writing material, a dream or two, your imagination and a sense of critical exploration. Please leave judgments and preconceived notions at the door. Any questions, comments or for more information please contact Carlos Chancellor directly at either his e-mail: cfchancellor@gmail.com or mobile: (415) 149 5567.

Joseph Campbell often said that the dream was the private myth and that myth is the public dream, yet what place does myth and mythology have in our contemporary lives? More than just an introduction to the weekly ongoing Archetypal Mythology classes that will be offered by Carlos Chancellor at the LifePath Center beginning October 16; this event seeks to explore the relevance of myth in our lives and the elements and manifestations of our contemporary mythology through guided group discussion. Does Western culture have a mythology despite its tendency towards literalism and positivism? Am I part of a mythology? Am I living out a myth? What is a myth? How will exploring and engaging with myth and mythology allow me to broaden my spectrum of understanding of myself and my culture while more fully engaging with life, soul and their mysteries? What is Archetypal Mythology? These and similar questions will be explored during this event.
